Tax Notice & Litigation Support

We read the notice, explain what it means, prepare the reply and represent you, from the first letter to appeal.

Often used by manufacturers and traders, service businesses and individuals.

The problem, in plain English

A tax notice is stressful because it is written in legal language and comes with a deadline. The first job is simple: work out what it is really asking, and by when.

Under GST, common notices include scrutiny notices about return mismatches and show cause notices before a demand. Under income tax, they include intimations after processing, scrutiny notices and reassessment notices. Each has a different response and a different time limit.

Appeals also have fixed time limits, for example a limited number of days from the date of the order. Missing them can close the door, which is why we ask you to send every notice the day it arrives.

Our founder leads the firm’s litigation practice, and our GST litigation work is led by a co-founder, so a partner handles your notice.

Who this is for

  • Businesses that have received a GST notice or demand
  • Individuals and firms with an income tax notice or scrutiny
  • Anyone facing an order they believe is wrong and wants to appeal
  • Owners who have missed a notice deadline and need to act fast

What we do

  1. Send us the notice

Share a photo or PDF on WhatsApp. We read it and tell you what it is about and how long you have to reply.

  2. Understand the facts

We check the period and figures in question against your books and returns, and work out whether the department's view is right.

  3. Prepare the reply

We draft a clear reply with supporting documents and reconciliations, and file it before the deadline.

  4. Represent you

If there is a personal hearing, we attend with you or on your behalf, with your authorisation.

  5. Appeal where needed

If the order goes against you and we believe it is wrong, we prepare and file the appeal within the time limit and represent you.

Documents you will need

  • The notice, with every page and annexure
  • Your returns for the period in question
  • Books of account, invoices and reconciliations for that period
  • Any earlier correspondence with the department on the issue
  • Portal login details, or OTP support when we file

Typical timeline

Every notice has its own deadline, often a few weeks. Send it to us as soon as it arrives, so we have time to prepare a proper reply.

Fees depend on the work involved. We give you a clear quote before we start.

Questions we are often asked

I have received a GST notice. What should I do first?

Do not ignore it, and do not reply in a hurry. Note the deadline, then send us the full notice. Many notices are routine queries about mismatches that can be closed with a clear reconciliation.

Does a notice mean I have done something wrong?

Not necessarily. Many notices are generated automatically when data in your return does not match other data, such as your suppliers' returns or your AIS.

What happens if I miss the deadline to reply?

The officer may decide the matter on the information they have, which often means a demand with interest and penalty. If you have missed a deadline, contact us at once; there may still be options.

Can you represent me so I do not have to attend?

In most proceedings, yes. With your written authorisation we can appear on your behalf and keep you informed.

Can I appeal against a tax order?

Yes. Both GST and income tax law allow appeals within fixed time limits. We assess whether an appeal is worth it before recommending one.
